Alhambra Granada

Well the Alhambra turned out to be truly breathtaking.

Delicate arabic patterns carved in stone and marble.

Yes! That is me striking a pose at the end of the pool. You have no idea how hard it is to get one without everybody else in the way. Entry is limited to small groups and it is just as well we had reserved our time 3 months ago!

The arena/ colosseum/ ampitheatre had been set up for a music concert. There was also stage and seating in the gardens for a ballet. Do they really have no rain that they can do all this outdoors? Riccardo on the grand staircase at the arena.

I couldn't resist the cannon inspector pose!
There are miles of paths, gardens, excavations and walls, gates and fountains.
Sculptures and shady verandahs with great views over the city and surrounding countryside help to ensure there is always something to admire;

We end up at the beautiful gardens, where it is easy to imagine moorish princes and nobles relaxing by the fountains and enjoying the shade and the gorgeous scents.
Yes Michael, I have got hundreds of ideas for you to add to the garden at home
The end of the day found us walking the streets in search of our usual three items, an internet cafe, a supermarket and dinner. Tomorrow is the dreaded 9 hour bus trip from Granada to Valencia, so we need to stock up on nibbles, recharge ipods and pack bags.
