Barcelona Day 2

We are keen to start in the cool of the day... Hostal Neutral must be the only place we have stayed on this trip without airconditioning. Weather has been brilliantly hot and air con is essential. Our early start works... we are in before the crowds and the heat and even get to climb to the top of the completed steeples. It is amazing to see a cathedral BEING built. Riccardo does some calculations based on the entry fees and concludes that although we have made a substantial contribution towards church building funds, cathedrals are very expensive to build! This one is not scheduled to be finished until 2020 and it is dubious whether it will be done then.

Leaf and branch patterns supported by
tree trunk columns.

A bridge between two steeples that we had to cross over...
Stairwell down from the steeple.

A cathedral being built.

Ice cream shops are still part of our daily routine, but look what can be done with watermelon!
Many gelateria decorate their ice cream with fruit, coffee beans, cookies, vanilla pods or jelly beans to show what flavour they are.

After the early starts and late nights it is early to bed tonight. One last stroll in the cool of the evening completes my quest for Gaudi buildings.
