Barcelona Day 1

Valencia Train Station clock
We would have been excited about arriving in Barcelona anyway but with Riccardos daughter meeting us there we were extra excited. We left our hotel before 6 to catch the train to Barcelona. These are a few blurred high speed train photos of the coast on the way through.

The travellers are reunited!
Outside one of those famous Gaudi buildings.

Sagrada Familia in the heat of the day.
We walked off to meet the group at "Sagrada Familia", the famous unfinished cathedral by Antoni Gaudi and found the heat and the queues unbearable. Resolved to be back EARLY tomorrow to avoid both those nasties we set off to walk to the other cathedral, market place, shopping streets, and supermarket.
Anna and I (in white and orange) watch a one footed\wheeled roller blader slalom between cones.
The most beautiful part of this cathedral is its "greenchapel" inner cloister or courtyard, shaded by old trees and cooled by fountains it is a magic spot.

Cathedralled out already?

Showered and changed we met up with Jose and our group to see the sunset before dinner... dinner is very late here. Sunset is at 10. He waved us on and off the metro without us having to think at all, finally bringing us to the foot of this hill and a series of waterfalls and fountains. As we climbed the stairs Barcelona spread out below us.

Each staircase brought more oohs and aahs.
The fountains squirted, sprayed and pulsed to the changing tempo of pop music. They played Queen and we all waited for the song we were expecting... "Barcelona".. but not tonight!

I had taken too many photos already so I put the camera away, only to have to get it out again to capture the colours changing on the fountain. Love this pink!!!
As we walked away the laser lights started to fan across the sky and street sellers showed off their whirly light thingys. You can see a couple of them marring the perfect symmetry of my photo.
We joined the group for a farewell dinner and finally made it back to our Hotel just before the metro stopped running for the night (1:30 or 2am I think). On top of our very early start it had been a long day.
